Tips

The following are the tips for enhancing backup process speed of communication from ActiveImage Protector clients to buckets and achieving increased security level for backup image files in storage.

Avoid creating multiple buckets within a single storage.

When multiple buckets are created in a single storage, it may negatively impact on the backup process speed for clients. Therefore, you are recommended to create one bucket in one storage. It is also recommended to create the bucket in storage dedicated to Actiphy ImageServer.

No bottlenecks over the network

When there exists a bottleneck in the network path (network interfaces, cables, and switches) from the ActiveImage Protector client to the server running Actiphy ImageServer, it will negatively impact on the client backup process speed. You are recommended to ensure there is no bottlenecks over the network before starting backup operation.

Use Cache device

When creating a bucket in a HDD delivering relatively slow read and write speeds is used, you are recommended to use an internal SSD or a USB SSD as cache device delivering faster read and write speed than the storage in which a bucket is created. The use of a device delivering faster read and write speed than the network interface used by the server running Actiphy ImageServer is more effective.

When specifying multiple destinations for backups of multiple clients, configure the schedules starting with intervals.

When specifying the same bucket as the destination for multiple clients backup operation, you are recommended to configure the schedule settings to start backup processes with intervals. Distribution of data communication across clients and the bucket enables to reduce the process time per client.

The server running Actiphy ImageServer do not join domain server.

Enhancing the security level, it is recommended not to have the server running Actiphy ImageServer join a domain. It is also recommended not to configure a shared folder.

Use [Export Image] when copying images from a bucket to an external location

When new base image files are created in an Actiphy ImageServer bucket, they are processed using the Inter-File Deduplication feature. New incremental image files are created without using Inter-File Deduplication. Inter-File Deduplication is performed during consolidation. Deduplication and Compression feature in ActiveImage Protector operates within individual image files, so image files copied using Windows Explorer can still be used. In contrast, because Inter-File Deduplication in this product is performed across multiple files, an image file copied using Windows Explorer cannot be used independently. To retrieve an image file from a bucket, go to [Bucket View] tab - [Image Set] list to select the image alias, and then select [Export Image] in the right-click menu.
